Inspired by simplicity

At The Ode To we’re always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Amanda Borgfors Mészaros to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.

What do you call your series of artworks?

– "Sculpt me dear". I love to craft, I do it meticulously, putting my heart and mind into every detail. I would never compromise on exceptional quality and a caring process.

What technique have you used?

Sculpting in leftover leather and stoneware clay.

What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?

– I’m constantly inspired and driven by the simplicity of things around me. It excites me how one single material can become something so mesmerizing and captures one’s attention.

I’m drawn to materials that are close to our nature, like stoneware clay or leftover vegetable tanned leather. I love to work with those by hand, to create powerful and sensual shapes. My background in fashion design has led me into working with silhouettes and shapes connected to our bodies and our different curves. I’m fascinated by the human body and see it as an endless source of inspiration – I’m using it as my framework when sculpting.

Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?

– I’m very grateful I was born into a family where creativity and design always has been encouraged. It has helped me to reach my goals. Now, I’ve worked and studied fashion, art and design for the past eight years. It has shaped me into the designer I am today. I have always felt the need to explore silhouettes, shapes and materials that empower me and my surrounding spaces. Since I started working with design and art, “simple but powerful” has been my motto.

How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?

– Sculptural, sensual, powerful.

If you would name one artist that you admire, who would it be?

– I admire Isamu Noguchi ́s subtle and bold way of working. He managed to combine modernism and abstraction perfectly. The timeless objects that he created, with few materials and tools, will last forever.
