Artistic layers

At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Swedish artist Rebecca Charlez to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.

Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?

– I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. My mother, who’s also an artistic person, taught me to draw at an early age. Growing up, my father worked at an art museum which gave me the opportunity to see a lot of different art from a young age. So, creating art has always been natural to me.

What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?

– I’m inspired by old textures and different, patinated materials. These artworks are made with textures in multiple layers.

With three words, how would you describe your art and aesthetics?

– Sculptural, earthy, emotional.

What we love about Rebecca Charlez:

We are in awe of the mix that Rebecca Charlez masters: a combination of a monochrome, minimalistic and sculptural expression combined with a tactile and layered finish.
