Art for the fun of it
At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Jonatan Appelfeldt to tell us a little bit about his life, his art and his sources of inspiration.

What inspires you?
– The curiosity of Ettore Sottsass has inspired me and helped me in my own work. I’m also inspired by shapes, textures and nature.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– I used to study furniture design and I worked with that for a couple of years after education. But more and more I started to create objects based solely on form and material without usurping them with a function. It's something I feel more comfortable with and what I prefer to do.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?
– Lustful, intuitive, colour.
Your series of artworks for The Ode To is called Fun. Can you tell us about what technique you have used?
– I've been using a combination of wood carving and structure painting. I mix paint and sand in different thicknesses to create the ground structure. Then I use a paint sprayer to create many layers of thin paint, until I get the surface that I want.
