A MULTI-TALENTED ARTIST

At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Kassandra Widmark Utas to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.

What do you call your series of artworks, and why?

I present various series in my practice. Among them, the Tube collection, the Arch collection, and the Raw Relics wall sculpture series available at The Ode To. I frequently experiment with different materials, including ceramics, paper clay, glass, and silk paintings. My sculptures take on unique personalities and temperaments, akin to distinct creatures. Additionally, I've worked on a series of tin sculptures featuring my signature "Moon Landscape" surface.

What technique and material have you used?

I employ techniques such as ceramic sculpting and crafting in paper clay, occasionally venturing into glasswork. My silk paintings involve painting directly on fabric using Indian ink. I have also worked on cotton and paper. Tin sculptures are another medium I've explored.

What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?

My work draws inspiration from life itself, serving as a form of expression when words fall short. I find constant fascination and influence in ancient art history and architecture. Thoughts of the Roman Empire occupy my mind regularly.

Could you tell us about your background, your education, and how you came to be an artist?

Though I have a professional background in music, I always knew I was destined to be a visual artist. My journey led me to study Art History, undertake one year of ceramic studies at Nyckelviksskolan in Stockholm, and earn a three-year bachelor's degree at Konstfack in Stockholm. These experiences have provided me with a strong foundation to explore and express my artistic vision.

How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?

My artistic style can be best described as intuitive, unpolished, and delightfully offbeat.
