What inspired you to create your series of artworks, Fleurs au repos, for The Ode To?
– The collection is created as if it’s the flowers that have shaped the vase. I wanted the shape of the vase-sculptures to adapt to the flower and not the other way around. It's my way of remembering that it's up to us to adapt to nature, to contemplate and observe it rather than trampling on it. Fleurs au repos (sleeping flowers) is a reference to the kind of sign that says, “Lawn is resting” that we put on lawns to prevent people from walking on it.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics?
– My work reflects my inner life—full of imaginary landscapes and daydreams (and night dreams too). Each one of my pieces starts with a sketch, and I create my own colour palette, looking for the right harmony according to the project I am currently working on. I’m inspired by painters like Denis Laget, Van Gogh and David Hockney. I love being surrounded by other artists and to be in constant conversation with them. It helps me to find my own, very personal voice and my singular way of seeing the world.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– I have a master’s degree in research & innovation in Graphic Design, and I’ve been working as an Artistic Director for over 10 years. Being a designer is to answer to a client's order, and to be at the service in the project, and although I still enjoy that very much, I felt that I was lacking my personal voice. I felt a need to create and be creative outside of an order. So, in 2016 I took my first ceramic class and I stayed for two years before buying my own kiln. It has been a very long road to learn everything by myself, but I enjoy the process very much and I have met so many wonderful artists and ceramists along the way, all very generous with their time and skills.
