Sofia Eriksson
Nickel plated wall sculptures inspired by muscles, made by hand by metal and jewellery designer Sofia Eriksson. Bodybuilding Mirror is a play on the corporeal. I want to lure the viewer to come close, to meet infinite variations of their body in the reflection. A new shape forms in the shiny metal, where reality and illusion are blurred.
Sofia Eriksson works close to the material in time-consuming and repetitive processes, combining silversmithing and sculptural techniques and materials. She creates ornamental sculptures made up of abstract bodies. Eriksson is interested in bodily sensations and human desires; through her works, she speculates on alternative realities; she ponders what a body can be. Material, the process of making and concept exist in a symbiosis where they lead each other forward.
Sofia Eriksson is educated at the Konstfack University of Art, Craft and Design. She lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.
