Inspired by the mesmerizing landscapes of Lanzarote Island, artist Inés Prat weaves tapestries that capture the essence, color, and craft of this magical place. Her unique artworks, exclusively available at The Ode To, invite us to experience the uncanny beauty and power of nature through her masterful use of textiles.

What do you call your series of artworks?

– The series is named 'Lanzarote Visions', and it's based on the deep impression that the island left in me.

What technique have you used?

– To make my tapestries I weaved on a traditional high heddle loom and then I used reclaimed wool for the weft and cotton for the warp.

What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?

– I draw inspiration from my first trip to the island of Lanzarote. The dramatic combination of volcanic soils, the fierce Atlantic Ocean, impeccable deep blue sky, relentless wind, and a stubborn vegetation made for a magical place. The island was filled with uncanny beauty, peaceful yet powerful like I had never seen before. When I weave my tapestries, I try to channel those emotions through my own sensibility and color palette.

Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?

– When I was studying art history at university, I fell in love with weaving. I found a workshop where I learned how to use traditional looms, and afterwards, I experimented with different loom types, particularly the high-warp loom. After working for a few years in the advertising industry as an assistant art director, I made the conscious choice to wholeheartedly devote myself to honing my skills, pursuing my artistic endeavors, and committing to my craft. Growing up, I always pictured my grandma knitting, so step by step I learned from her and I never stopped experimenting. Through my formative years, I tried many different mediums like painting and I also did for so many years ceramics, but I always felt drawn to textiles. Tapestry has a unique combination of colors, textures, and materials where I feel free to express myself.

How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?

– Essence, Color and Craft
