At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Josefin Holmgren, the artist behind Nord Projects, to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.

What do you call your series of artworks?

– "Wind", because this series is an interpretation of the movement of air, and how wind creates beautiful waves in fabrics and water.

What technique have you used?

– Wood shaped by hand, pigment and oil. Some of the pieces are also treated with paint and/or sand.

What inspired you to create the artworks you have made for The Ode To?

– After many years of creating two dimensional art, I wanted to create something three dimensional and tactile. In this digital world we need something real to rest our eyes on and to feel with our hands. Another dimension to this is that because these wall sculptures are seemingly free floating beside the wall, they are creating eye-catching and constantly changing shadows as a part of the artwork. I love the movement and texture in these pieces and what it does with the room it is placed in - they have the ability to both make an impact and modesty blend in, both arouse interest and create a sense of depth and calm.

Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?

– The interest to create and work with my hands has always been there since I grew up and has followed me through design studies at different schools. Since many years, I split my work hours to work partly with car design in a car design studio in Gothenburg, and partly as an artist. I was born in Skellefteå in the north of Sweden but has lived in Gothenburg most of my grown-up life, studying and working with design and art. Now I live on a small car-free island in the archipelago outside of Gothenburg, and the closeness to the nature and the ocean has always been important to me, ever since I grew up. I tend to see beauty in objects, nature and situations, and combined with my interest for creating and fascination for interior design, it has always been natural to create art.

How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?

– Simplicity, senses and textures
