Jonna Valtner
At The Ode To we are always curious to learn more about creativity and artistry, so we asked Swedish painter Jonna Valtner to tell us a little bit about her life, her art and her sources of inspiration.
Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be an artist?
– I am a trained fashion designer and used to work as a product designer. But today I'm re-educating myself to become a teacher, being able to let my image creation take a big place. I grew up with several artists in my family and having access to a studio and artistic creation while growing up has made art natural for me.
How would you describe your art and aesthetics in three words?
"Moody, dreamy and contemplative."
The series of artworks that you have created for The Ode To is called Portraits – can you tell us more about the pieces?
– I have always been fascinated by old painted portraits and oil painting in general. When creating this series, using oil on canvas, I’ve turned the object away from the viewer, unlike in traditional portrait paintings. There is no specific message in the paintings, but I want to convey a feeling and a mood. Sometimes the simple and obvious, a colour or shape, say more than anything else.
