THE ODE TO:
GLASS

Transparent, colourful, fragile and hard - this versatile material has many faces. It's a difficult material to master and we're happy to see that contemporary artists are bringing some fresh air to the glass space. Gone are the stuffy glass pieces we saw when growing up in the 90s.

We've handpicked glass artworks from 5 promising new glass artists. Discover the work of Helena Malm, Lisa Hartwig Ericson, Malin Pierre, Normal Object Factory and Tillie Burden.

LISA HARTWIG ERICSON

The series Motherhood aims to communicate bodily experiences and feelings, in this artist's case it's the balancing act of becoming a mother. The feeling of being both exhausted and happy at the same time, all while someone is literally holding on to you.

Some of the artworks delightfully combines ceramics and glass, while there are pure glass wall sculptures that bring a colourful dot to your wall.

Lisa Hartwig Ericson has been with us for a while and her artistry is constantly developing into new spheres.

NORMAL OBJECT FACTORY

A simple geometric shape, exquisite craftsmanship and delightful speckles - this mouth-blown glass vase is special. The Venn Vase - Camouflage Series is named after John Venn's interlaced circular diagram. The shape of the vase is designed to work in narrow window frames. The circles in the design make it possible to place individual flowers in a decorative way but can also hold an entire bouquet.

Normal Object Factory is the Swedish-Taiwanese duo Alexandra Nilasdotter and Chien Kuang Liu who met during studies at KADK, The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, in Copenhagen and now work from Gustavsberg in Stockholm.

MALIN PIERRE

Like fluffy clouds - this abstract glass sculpture is a wonder of billowing shapes. It shows a juxtaposition between the hard glass and soft shapes.

The shape is achieved through multi-step method that requires lots of time, patience and love. From hand-sewing to casting plaster forms and mouth-blowing hot glass. The result are fashionable couture sculptures.

We started working with Malin Pierre last fall and her artistry is simply booming as she now takes on her Master at Konstfack in Stockholm.

HELENA MALM

The sculpture in the series 'Waves' are made from waste material from the hotshop, so basically all the little broken scrapped glass pieces that otherwise couldn't be used. The glass is crushed and melted in a fusing kiln into puddle-like shapes, then slumped (melted) on metal to achieve the final wavy shapes.

Helena Malm is a print designer since 10+ years and is currently expanding her creativity by getting a BFA in ceramics and glass at Konstfack in Stockholm. Her artistry is signified by impeccable material studies and smashing colours.
